Palette in Chinese rugs
In studying the limited palette of the Chinese weaver it is interesting to begin with the use made of natural colored wools and hair.
The fawn colors, which are strictly Chinese, differ somewhat from the tan colors of Hamadan camel's hair.
The coarse hair of the yak, the cow and the other animals, and the wool both coarse and fine from native sheep, give endless variety to the quality of the materials used, which furnish the varying shades of fawn, tan, and light and dark brown in Chinese rugs.
